State Highway 73 or the Great Alpine Highway is the main route between Christchurch and the West Coast over Arthur's Pass.

there are several travel options for you to choose:

The Tranz Alpine train runs once in the morning to the West Coast and returns in the afternoon. prices from$99
Smylies Shuttle service:03-3184740 airport pick up, mountain transport ( pop into the transport page for more info)
West coast shuttle coach :03-7680028 or 02749207488 passes thru around 10.30am towards chch and leaves chch at 3.00 pm for arrival around 4.00 pm ,suitable for YHA /CHILL accommodation voucher holders
Atomic Shuttles: heading west in the morning and passing thru Springfield around 8.30 am returning around 4.30 pm
